Abortion is a Red Herring- Woman Aren’t Stupid

is going to take away their right to an abortion. But a close examination of the abortion issue should put to rest most of the concerns Obama is trying to raise.

First of all Mitt Romney has softened his position by recently stating that he has no plans to pursue any abortion legislation once in office. Democrats, liberal media and, of course, Obama campaign officials jumped all over this as another flip-flop by a man they’ve been able to label a flip-flopper saying not pursuing legislation to outlaw or seriously restrict abortion is contrary to his position in the Republican primaries that he would sign any bill put before him that did so. For the truly stupid and inept reading this let me make clear there is no inconsistency in the two statements. There is a difference between “pursuing” something and signing that which someone else pursued, achieved and stuck in front of you.

But the reason this whole issue is a red herring designed to scare women and really sensitive men is because of a little thing called the United States Supreme Court. In 1973 in the case of Roe vs Wade the Court ruled abortion to be legal throughout the land. Furthermore, attempts in legislatures around the country to impose restrictions on abortion access have met with mixed results at best. in Casey vs Planned Parenthood and Webster vs Reproductive Health Services, twice voted to strike down portions of state laws restricting access to abortions. And O’Connor was joined in fellow Reagan appointee Anthony Kennedy and George H.W. Bush appointee David Souterin the Casey decision.

If my point is not obvious let me be pointed by saying we’ve had three Republican Pro-Life Presidents since 1980 occupying office 20 years and in spite of their Supreme Court appointments Roe vs Wade remains the law of the land, with only a few reasonable restrictions having been OK’d by the court since. Abortion is here to stay. And Mitt Romney being elected President isn’t going to change that. So all naive and alarmist voters who buy into Obama’s scare tactics can take a deep breath and vote for Romney with a clear conscious.

Under the Pro-Choice/Democrat/Obama worst case scenario in order for abortion to be made illegal in this country here is what would need to happen:

1. Mitt Romney would have to win election. Even though odds of this are looking better every day, its far from a slam dunk.

2. Mitt Romney would have to stick with his position during the republican primary season to sign a bill banning abortion rather than revert to his position to protect abortion rights when he was running for governor in 2002.

3. One of the five liberal to moderate Supreme Court Justices would have to die or retire in the next four years.

4. President Romney would have to name and win appointment of a Pro-Life Justice to The Court to replace the Liberal Justice who departed. Not such an easy task when Pro-Choice advocates would be fully aware and would strongly oppose such an appointment, knowing such a successful appointment would conceivably tip the balance of the court into overturning Roe vs Wade.

5. Some city or state would have to overcome popular opinion and pass a law banning abortion or restricting so much that a court challenge would be inevitable.

6. A court challenge of such a law would have to be brought. And in being brought it would still face between 2-5 years before actually reaching the Supreme Court (and who knows what the configuration of the court would be at that time).

7. The newly configured Supreme Court would have to rule to overturn Roe vs Wade, something it has specifically chosen not to do in 9 different rulings since 1973.

and lastly…

8. With 70% of Americans believing some form of abortion ought to be kept legal; Congress would have to ignore that HUGE demand from the electorate and NOT immediately pass a new Constitutional Amendment allowing some form of abortion.

Common sense and basic math says the likelihood of all those things happening is astronomical. And if it did happen it would still be many years from now.

Democrats present themselves as the protectors of women’s abortion rights. And maybe they are. But they aren’t going away any time soon, though many of us sometimes wish they would. So just like its been for the past forty years abortion will remain legal. Even electing a Pro-Life President, like Mitt Romney says he is (now) doesn’t mean any justice he names to the Court will win appointment; and upon winning appointment to this life-time post there is no guarantee that same Justice won’t do as O’Connor, Kennedy, and Souter did previously and uphold Roe vs Wade.

So go ahead ladies. Don’t be stupid. Don’t fall for the red herring. Vote for Mitt Romney.

Tell me, what’s wrong with this picture: The state of Nevada continues to have one of the worst unemployment rates in the country at 11.8%, 4-points above the national average and President Barack Obama maintains a slight edge in polling over Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

So this state that re-elected Dingy Harry Reid in 2010 to the U.S. Senate and then subsequently the Majority Leader position while battling unemployment over 14% at that time seems resistant to changing the leadership that has presided over their horrible conditions.

Nevada also ranks sixth nationally in home foreclosures. At one time in the last four years they were number 1. And without looking this up to verify I can safely say the state of Nevada is first in the nation in gambling expenditures. And you can judge for yourself the morals and wisdom in Nevada being the only state in the country with legal prostitution.

And then there is the fact that Nevadans built their largest city in a desert, bereft of any sufficient water supply.

The polling numbers today got me wondering if the people in Nevada aren’t the dumbest people in the country. Why on earth would you continue to elect the leaders in charge of your horrible economic conditions.

So then I got to thinking about who the dumbest people in the country truly might be. I’d be interested in my readers nominations. But aside from Nevadans one group of people leaped into my head: television reporters and/or personalities. Calling tv reporters journalists is an insult to journalists.

This opinion isn’t based solely on partisan resentment for what is displayed daily on MSNBC. I was a journalist. I worked among newspaper, radio, tv, and magazine reporters for a number of years. I was at press conferences with the local, state or national politicians who had to face tough questions. I sat through more than my share of boring city and county and legislative council meetings. I stuck my microphone in the face of some of the country’s most prominent people; and usually did so side-by-side with other scribes and with the hot lights of television cameras shining over my shoulder.

And though its been 20 years since I worked professionally in reporting the news, all indications are that my personal experience with these walking, talking Barbie and Ken dolls remains a valid point of view. Let me state that like everything in life there are exceptions. But on whole I found tv reporters shallow primadonas without the intellectual capability of your average gas station attendant. I was awestruck on frequent occasions to hear questions of news worthy individuals that did little to expand on the story at hand, did little to enlighten the viewer. Usually, tv reporters benefited from the questioning of other more erudite journalists who usually came from the print or radio industry. Print reporters were generally quite arrogant and did little to hide their contempt for the average tv reporter…or news subject…for that matter. Radio journalist were the ones I respected the most. As a radio reporter you must ask your subjects questions that expand the story. Yes or No answers don’t work on radio. You need your subject to talk in order to get the sound bite that is long enough and interesting enough to include in your story. Being able to do this is not always easy and one reason I found more intelligence in the average radio journalist than in the average tv reporter.

TV reporters were always more interested in how they looked on camera than in the facts of a given story. And in today’s world they seem utterly oblivious to fair and balanced reporting. It’s not so much that they boldly state ill-informed, uneducated opinions; it’s that they set a premise for their reporting and then work to shape the story to that premise rather than just gathering the facts with an unbiassed curiosity that allows for the truth to come out more frequently.

I also think its worth mentioning that among those who I learned to respect the most were the politicians. Politicians on the whole are genuinely smart people who care about the service they provide their constituency. I’m well aware of the average Americans contempt for politicians. And I understand that disrespect. But in my personal experience those who run for office have more education, wisdom, personality and compassion than other persons I’ve encountered in life. And I would say this of men and women from both parties. There are exceptions. But I am speaking generally.

So who would you nominate for the collectively dumbest people in America?

A friend posted on Facebook some time ago a quote I won’t soon forget because it’s true and its a little frightening. Half of all people are below average in intelligence. So now you have half the country, 1 out of every 2 people in which to choose.

My Votes Contain Some Surprises- Even to Me

My Election Ballot came in the mail last week. Here is how I will fill it out. I offer these choices publicly in the hope my influence, however small, gives reason to those who are undecided to vote as I do. (To those who would disagree. Save your time and breath. Being critical at this point won’t change my vote and will only serve as divisive commentary).

No surprise here. I support Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. I am proud to have supported Romney from the start of the Republican Primary process. He is a man of incredible kindness and accomplishment. In fact, his many personal acts of kindness and generosity exceed that of any Presidential major party nominee in memory. His business acumen is unchallenged.

President Obama has failed. For those who say he inherited a bad economy. I agree. But in saying this you ignore that the economy had rebounded and posted 3 straight quarters of respectable growth over 3.8% in 2010 and hasn’t been above 3% since. That’s the wrong direction. This is no longer Bush’s economy. This is Obama’s economy.

One last point to the hardcore Conservatives and Libertarians out there. Please be smart and not emotional. A vote for Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party or Virgil Goode of the Constitution Party is a vote for Obama. And if you vote or support Constitution Party of Libertarian Party ideals there is no doubt Romney is far closer to your views than is Barack Obama. This is going to be a very, very close election. The 2000 election was decided by less than 300 votes. Your protest vote for Johnson or Goode could very likely be singularly responsible for putting Obama back in the White House for four more years. Don’t be selfish. Vote for Romney and lobby for him to take positions closer to your stances. Romney will at least listen. Obama would laugh you out of the room, if you ever managed to get into his room.

Rob McKenna

This is so easy. Attorney General Rob McKenna has a moderate appeal that is perfect for the Evergreen State. He can govern from the Governors Mansion with the same even-handed approach he showed in the Attorney General’s office and while serving on the King County Council.

Jay Inslee has zero executive experience. His ideas are straight out of the Ultra-Liberal handbook. And based on hearing him in two debates I doubt they’re his ideas. I doubt he has the mental capacity to formulate these ideas. Seeing him side-by-side with McKenna showed no doubt he was outclassed in every way.

Maria Cantwell

This is a tough one. Michael Baumgartner belongs to the party  I most identify with. But, for me, he lacks a certain gravitas I feel is necessary for such a high office. Senator Maria Cantwell has that gravitas, even if I disagree with much of her political views. But with the shamelessly worthless Patty Murray occupying my state’s other Senate seat I don’t feel we can be totally unrepresented in the U.S. Senate. Murray’s presence makes it essential for keeping an effective voice for Washington State that we re-elect Maria Cantwell.

U.S. House of Representatives (Dist. 8)

Dave Reichert gets my vote. He votes Conservative most of the time, and he is a genuine environmentalist. Not the type of trouble making environmentalist who believes people are bad and the world would be better off without us. He’s the type of environmentalist I think I am. He believes its good and important for Washingtonians to get out and enjoy nature.

I don’t know Karen Porterfield. And given my passion for politics that should tell you something.

Washington Lt. Governor

I’m voting for Bill Finkbeiner. Brad Owen has been in there long enough. This largely ceremonial position is one for which Owen has used to enrich himself. Time for him to go.

Washington State Attorney General

I was solicited at my front door by those who “hoped I would support pro-labor candidates”. In particular Democrat Candidate Bob Ferguson for Attorney General. Labor has too many advantages in this state already. Combined with an anti-Ferguson TV ad that I consider devastating my mind was made up.

Vote for Reagan Dunn.

Washington State Commissioner of Public Lands

After Clint Didier lost his outsider’s bid for Governor two years ago I was glad he decided to continue in politics. He gets my vote because he is a true Conservative with life experiences that make him a very compelling future holder of high office. I hope so anyway.

Gay Marriage: Referendum 74

I vote to uphold marriage. I vote Rejected. No I don’t call it “traditional” marriage. It’s marriage. Period. Seriously, the idea of Gay marriage is simply absurd. Sorry. I mean no offense. Really. I don’t. I’m fine (really I don’t care) who you love, who you sleep with, who you live with. Do what makes you happy. But don’t tell me its marriage. Sorry. It’s simply not.

Defending my position is pointless, because the supporters of Gay Marriage will label me a hater. To which I say. YOU are the ones doing the hating. Very simply, keeping marriage laws as they have always been doesn’t discriminate against anyone. A Gay man can marry the same individuals I can marry. So where is the discrimination?

Sadly, this measure will be Approved according to all polls, and our society takes one more tiny step away from tradition and morals that serve us better than those we’ve run toward in the past forty years.

Legalized Marijuana: Initiative 502

A very tough call for me. A very very tough call for me.

I believe marijuana is a gateway drug that leads far too many young people to other more dangerous narcotics. And even if it didn’t the effects of marijuana on many of our youth are devastating. The cliche` “stoner” is cliche` for a reason. Dumb, slow, ignorant, unmotivated….that is the classic stoner. And legalizing marijuana only perpetuates this cliche` and makes it likely we’ll see more of this type of unmotivated slacker. Just what our society needs. NOT!

I’ve seen the effects of obsessive, addictive marijuana use on my own family members. It’s absolutely devastating to a person and to a family. Why would I want to have this happen to one more family?

The answer is I wouldn’t. So, despite believing in individual freedoms and the freedom to fuck-up, the freedom to fail I won’t be responsible for making it easier for individuals to do so.

So I’ll be voting No, and I urge others to do likewise.

(To illustrate how torn I am on this subject…I started writing this section with the intent of Voting Yes and convincing others to do so. But in writing I literally talked myself out of it).

Washington Initiative 1185- Public vote or 2/3 Majority for All Tax Increases

Washington state voters have approved this initiative before. Overwhelmingly. It’s maddening that our legislature has ignored this law and never renewed it. It deserves approval again. Politicians need for it to be difficult to raise the people’s taxes because politicians find it so easy to do so.

Washington Initiative 1240- Charter Schools

This is another slam dunk. In fact to vote against Charter Schools amounts to nothing more than voting support for teacher’s unions. It’s not about what’s best for kids. I love and respect teachers. I don’t feel that way about their unions and don’t feel those unions need any more support in this state. Washington Democrats bend to their every whim already.

Creating Charter Schools for all students to attend only increases choice for parents and their kids. Why wouldn’t you want to allow that to happen. Additionally, privately run charter schools all over the country are widely successful, and usually outperform their public school counterparts. I want that for my kids and for my future grandkids. Vote Yes for Charter Schools.

Obama didn’t Say What he Said-The Jedi Mind Trick

I’ve been closely paying attention to national politics for 25 years. And I’ve made a habit of studying it even longer. And I’ve never seen or read of the phenomena now afflicting nearly half of all Americans. But I have seen it before… in the movies. It’s called the Jedi Mind Trick, made famous by  Obi Wan Kenobi in the original Star Wars. President Barack Obama has seemingly been a good student. The Force is strong with this one.

In the most recent example of Obama not saying what he said we are all being led to believe he and his Administration didn’t repeatedly, with considerable effort, try to steer the blame for the Benghazi, Libya Al Qaida terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate and the murder of our Ambassador and three others on a previously unknown YouTube 13 minute video.

 

“These are not the droids you’re looking for.”

 

The Jedi Mind Trick is so forceful in Obama he managed to get a respected national media journalist to back his lie in front of the world in a Presidential Debate. Obama says he called the attacks a terrorist attack. He even says “read the transcripts”. And moderator Candy Crowley tells opponent Mitt Romney in fact that he did call it a terrorist attack the day after, in his Rose Garden comments. But a full viewing of the video shows even THAT is a lie.

 

 

Clearly Obama says “acts of terror” at the 4:18 point of the above video. But equally clear is that he was speaking generally about numerous “acts of terror”. But even the minutia of this discussion is part of the Jedi trick. The simple minds that fall for it fail to recognize that Obama may have said “acts of terror” on September 12, one day after the murders in Benghazi but in the same video before saying “acts of terror” Obama says, “Since our founding the United States has been a nation that respects all faiths, we reject all efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others.” What is he talking about? While not mentioning the video one only needs know what happened in the following two weeks to understand what he was setting up.

This isn’t the first time Obama hasn’t said what he’s said. In the now infamous “You didn’t build that.” speech Democrats say repeatedly that the President was taken out of context. They say he wasn’t denigrating business owners in his remarks.

 

 

Being generous Obama may have been referencing roads and bridges with the comment “You didn’t build that”. But there is no denying the snarky defamatory tone and nature of the entire speech. He was undeniably saying to business owners “You didn’t build that”, even if those exact words were referencing a more specific point within his overall point.

 

“You didn’t build that” was denied time and time again from Obama’s Jedi Mind Trick affected defenders. But, there it is on the video for all people with an IQ above the length of a yardstick to see, hear and understand. This man doesn’t like business owners or the initiative they show.

 

In 2008 candidate Barack Obama had his Romney “47%” moment when he said his opponents “cling to guns or to religion” as a way of explaining their opposition.

 

 

But as offensive as this comment is, we seldom heard about it. Jedi Mind trick at work again.

Obama attends the church of Pastor Jeremiah Wright for twenty years. He is close friends and political allie of admitted terrorist Bill Ayers. These are just a few of the associations Obama has and had that would have disqualified ANY other candidate for City Council, let alone President. Jedi Mind Trick.

 

He is given the Nobel Peace Prize months into office in 2009 having done NOTHING to warrant such an honor. Jedi Mind trick.

 

Those afflicted by the Obama Jedi mastery say Benghazi attack was properly called an “Act of terror” by Obama and they ignore his comments on the Letterman Show, The View, and at the United Nations a full 2 weeks after. They now say, “Well…we don’t know the reason behind why he would say that. There are national security issues at stake.”

 

“You can go about your business.”

 

“Move along. Move along.”

Understanding the Democrats

Every survey I’ve seen in the past decade or two indicates that most women consider themselves Democrats politically. Likewise, every survey I’ve seen in the past couple decades indicates that most men consider themselves Republicans, politically. Nobody should make the huge leap to argue that I am saying all women are Democrats and all men are Republican, or that Democratic men are somehow less manly. But I know some will. It’s inevitable.

 

Still, I do think some psychologic conclusions can be reached through these facts that will allow us to understand each other a little bit better where we disagree. And if you understand your political opponent more I’d like to think you are more likely to be able to find common ground.

 

Women crave security. Men crave independence. There. I’m done. These two statements sum up why Democrats and Republicans fight so much. If you don’t quite get it…allow me to explain.

 

In spite of Women’s Liberation, increasing freedom and less male dominance in the past 40-50 years woman still through nurture and nature have a strong desire for security. They don’t want to be fearful. They are averse to risk. Financial security is far more important to women than it is to men. The security of affection is stronger in women. A warm blanket to snuggle under on the couch while watching TV is cliche`. Knowing this, is it any wonder more women identify with the Democratic party? The Dems are the ones who want to provide you with everything you could possibly need, including…these days…cell phones.

Also, with this in mind, it’s not surprising that President Barack Obama has been leading in polls over Mitt Romney among all women, (…at least until recently. More on this in a moment.) while Romney has been leading Obama among married women. Married women have far more security in their personal lives and have less of a need for security from the government. The converse can be said of single women.

If women crave security, what is it that most men desire? Men desire independence. Men don’t want to be told what to do. Men want to be men. I realize that I’m falling back on cliche` for some of this. But ultimately I only know what I know and no more. It’s instructive to realize that the more things change, the more they stay the same. Men and women are different, no matter how much Democrats want to insinuate that they aren’t. And men are more comfortable with risk than are women. Let’s face it, some men crave risk more than they crave independence  And at least since the time of Ronald Reagan and possibly as far back as Barry Goldwater the Republicans have rallied under the banner of less government and more freedom (also known as “risk” in many aspects of life) and independence. For men, it’s as if the GOP were some tall, leggy blonde in a tight sweater constantly winking at them. It’s too hard to resist the lure of freedom and independence…and risk.

 

So what’s wrong with women and Democrats seeking security while men and Republicans seek independence? Can’t we co-exist under such dissimilar desires? The answer is no because if you desire security then you desire someone giving you that security; because to provide that security yourself would require independence, and risk. And if you only get security from someone else, you give up some independence. When you’re single as a man or woman you have freedom. You can have drinks, dinner or sleep with whoever you want. When your married you can’t…or at least shouldn’t. Being single you have more independence. Being married you have more security. It’s the same in politics or government. So by desiring security through government Democrats are telling Republicans, and most men, to relinquish some independence. They’re telling single men to strap on the old ball and chain. Something men and Republicans are reluctant to do. It’s not in our DNA.

 

As it turns out President Obama is beginning to lose the argument for security. In polls released today by USA Today Romney has moved up into a tie with President Obama among women in the ten swing states that will determine our nation’s next President.

It appears our nation’s women are beginning to understand that a better job, and better economy provide better security than can Obama’s government. Certainly, I agree.
