This is and has been the primary reason I have vehemently opposed Ron Paul. Anyone who espouses racist bigotry or stands idly by while others do in his name is not fit to be dog catcher, let alone President of the United States. Phil Klein of the Washington Examiner is correct when he writes:
Rick Perry and Mitt Romney have both attacked each other for what was written in their respective books. If either of those books had included a number of overtly racist statements, their candidacies would be over before they started.
This is an excellent article from The Atlantic that echoes my views completely. I hope you’ll read it.
The Story Behind Ron Paul’s Racist Newsletters – Michael Brendan Dougherty – Politics – The Atlantic.
Paul’s naive anti-war stance is troublesome and dangerous for our nations and the world that our country bravely leads. But when Paul dispassionately lets crank conspiracy theories and racist commentary represent his views he stands to harm not some foreign impoverished and oppressed peoples, he stands to harm Americans, in some cases the most vulnerable of all Americans. Republicans can’t be so blind to the harm this man represents to the party. They must reject him outright and call him what he is…not representative of our values.
