Indefensible Comments From Obama are Being Defended.

Astounding that the comments made in the above video are being spun and defended by bias, entrenched liberal warriors who don’t want their champion to fall. The problem is the words used in this video are completely indefensible. There is no explaining away the fact that our President Barack Obama believes government comes before private industry, private industry wouldn’t succeed without government, and entrepreneurs owe all their succes to government. As a private business owner I can say without equivocation government has posed more of a hinderance to my company’s growth than it has an asset.

Defenders of this speech last Friday in Roanoke, Virginia have repeatedly pointed to the text of the speech as evidence that the President was taken out of context. For the life of me I can’t imagine why we need the text when we have the full video showing the entire statement in full throated socialist roar. But to placate those deaf, and blind who seem intent on calling that which is up, down, and calling that which is dark, light…we post here the full text of what Obama said:

“If you were successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think ‘Well it must be because I am just so smart’. There are a lot of smart people out there. ‘It must be because I worked harder than anyone else.’ Let me tell you something. There are a whole bunch of hard working people out there. If you were successful somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business—you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.’

The opening lines of the statement is said in mockery of business owners. Our President is belittling the very people who are the engine AND the wheels of this economy.

To make the argument that the President is right; every entrepreneur got help along the way from teachers, road builders, etc is an inane and silly argument. All of the American people receive the benefits of road building and public education. Every American has the opportunity to strike-out on their own and create commerce and create jobs by building a business. Very few do. Very few put their own money into a business and risk losing it all. Very few work mornings, afternoons, evening, and weekends when the going for their business gets tough. Few are interested in reading the books, watching the videos, attending the classes and the seminars needed to learn how to start and grow a business. Almost none are faced with using and abusing their credit cards when necessary purchases have to be made and cash flow isn’t there.

When payment of the world’s highest federal corporate tax rates come due it isn’t the employees the IRS comes after. Hard working company employees and government employees are not held legally liable when something goes wrong with a business. No. It’s the business owners who face the repercussions; legal and otherwise. And when a business fails the employees lose their jobs, but the business owner loses their job, their dreams, their way of life, often their house and much much more.

I want to give credit to a friend, Bradley Kelley, who wrote the following:

“All of the discussion on the role of government sounds great as to all the benefits to society in general as long as you acknowledge one critical point; government was formed to do these functions by people already engaged in trade with each other and employing others, who were willing to give to public coffers to fund these functions. Get the story straight, that government was formed and survives at the behest of the governed. It does not exist without the benevolence of the governed and those that fund it. Everyone may use roads, attend public schools and enjoy police protection. Not everyone risks everything they have and their family’s future to start a business. When you get hired for a job some one owns that business and provided the capital to fund it (before there was any revenue). The same is true in the public sector. Our property, business, B & O, sales, income, gas taxes etc. fund those jobs. The horse is the private sector. Carts don’t pull horse and you better make sure you have enough horses and they are well fed or the carts don’t move.”

The President believes that people and businesses don’t succeed without government. He doesn’t understand that “Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed…”. It’s not the other way around, Mr. President.

Wisdom and Fairness of Health Care Law in Question

Official 2005 photo of Chief Justice John G. R...

Chief Justice John G. Roberts (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

The Supreme Court says the Federal Government cannot mandate that Americans buy health insurance denying the Obama Administrations claim that such a mandate was allowed under the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution. Unfortunately for those who opposed the law, including yours truly, the Court ruled that the Federal Government was authorized to tax those without health insurance. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the decision saying,‘‘Because the Constitution permits such a tax, it is not our role to forbid it, or to pass upon its wisdom or fairness,’’. I’ll surprise my Conservative friends by stating, grudgingly, that I think Roberts is right. To disagree would impose undeniable limits on what our government can choose to tax. Since the adoption of the 16th Amendment creating the income tax, Congress has had the power to determine how and where taxes should be imposed. To impose a limit would render the Federal Government essentially impotent in its ability to pay for itself. “The law”, Roberts wrote, “makes going without insurance just another thing the Government taxes, like buying gasoline or earning income. And if the mandate is in effect just a tax hike on certain taxpayers who do not have health insurance, it may be within Congress’s constitutional power to tax.”

Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not happy about this. And I admit I’d never thought of the individual mandate in Obamacare as a tax and as such legal. Though clearly I and every American with an IQ above that of a Banana Slug knew in fact it was a tax. Part of the reason I didn’t think of it as a tax is because President Obama and the Democratic Congress that passed this nearly 3000-page law repeatedly said “it wasn’t a tax”. However, in arguments before the High Court the President’s Solicitor General repeatedly made clear the penalty for failing to have health insurance WAS a tax, and thus Constitutional an argument they won today.

English: Anthony Kennedy, Associate Justice of...

Anthony Kennedy, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States

Justice Anthony Kennedy read the dissenting opinion and called the health care law, “invalid in its entirety”. He was joined in dissent by Justices Thomas, Scalia, and Alito. At the time of this writing their opinion and reasons for it are not available for reading or quoting.

With the Constitutionality of Obamacare now settled, and it is settled so those who oppose it can quit with  any whining; we must now revisit the law’s wisdom and fairness which Roberts pointed out the Court is not empowered to question. It still remains a bad law which does harm to the cause for its creation in the first place. The need for something like Obamacare came about because of the high cost of health care. Some would say the law was necessary because of the high cost of health insurance and the approximately 30-million Americans who are not covered by insurance. But insurance is expensive because health care is expensive. Those who are uninsured are uninsured because that can’t afford insurance. So, once again the problem is the cost of health care. Hello?

Obamacare’s only step toward controlling costs is to limit and regulate care. Determinations as to who and what care will be provided is, in large part, going to fall to government bureaucrats. How’s the wisdom and fairness in that?

Since the TAX for not having health insurance is well below the cost of the premium many, if not most, people and businesses will choose to pay the tax and drop coverage. Under Obamacare the TAX for businesses not providing health insurance coverage for their employees is $2500. With a fiduciary responsibility to stock holders, you have to ask yourself what is the incentive for anyone managing a business to carry insurance?  The penalty/tax for individuals not covered is as follows:
$95 in 2014, $325 in 2015, and $695 in 2016. Under Obamacare insurance companies are no longer able to deny coverage to a person seeking coverage based on pre-existing conditions. So, why pay for health insurance if you’re healthy. Why not pay the tax until such time as you get sick and then buy insurance? Financially, it’s the logical thing to do.

The end result of the High Court’s ruling is a law takes effect that will drive more people and businesses away from health care coverage, which will drive up insurance prices, which inevitably will drive more and more people and businesses away from paying for coverage. In the end insurance companies will no longer have a viable product that is affordable for anyone but the super rich. The burden of paying for Americans health coverage will fall on the already overburdened Federal Government. The added deficit spending will weaken the American dollar against world currency, as it already has, which will contribute to massive inflation, which will ultimately bring down the economy however strong or weak the economy happens to be. It’s a recipe for disaster.

The Supreme Court validated the Congress’ ability to tax. Sad but true. Fortunately, the disaster scenario we can all expect with the unfolding of Obamacare can be averted. As I wrote in a previous blog, Obama can’t Win Healthcare Test, winning the High Court’s decision will only inspire Republicans to vote Obama and Democrats out of office this November. Roberts has awakened a sleeping bear. The American people will not likely stand for the implementation of Obamacare without a fight. GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney‘s promise to repeal it will undoubtedly bring many who were on the fence about him to his corner. Senate and House candidates who continue to stand up against the new law will receive the money and support necessary to put the GOP in control of the Congress. Even the more liberal media outlets like CNN, MSNBC, and the New York Times admit polls show more than 70% of Americans don’t like Obamacare.

Mitt Romney, former governor of Massachusetts,...

Mitt Romney

Romney and Republican Congressional candidates need to make sure they don’t forget the aspects of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that are good and that people like. Their challenge will be to figure out how to pay for guaranteed coverage for those with pre-existing conditions; the guarantee that you won’t be dropped by your insurance company if you get sick; the ability to keep adult kids on their parents insurance plans (though does it really have to be until age 26? I mean, I love my kids, but I expect them to stand on their own at a certain point. 1 or 2 years after normal age of leaving college, 24, seems reasonable to me).

My hope is the Supreme Court’s ruling today wakes up the American people and helps them understand the responsibility they alone hold. If your Congressman votes for a law you oppose, or an excessive tax it’s up to you to vote him out of office.  The High Court is holding YOU accountable. YOU have to hold your legislators accountable.

Get Testimonials to Sell Your Business.

In seven years of operating my business, Total Broadcasting Service, I have been reminded by people, articles, videos, and by other means countless times to get testimonials from customers. It’s a long time business practice that is fabulous for giving your product or service credibility with those who don’t know you, who you would like to know you.

I don’t want to spend a lot of time explaining the benefits of getting testimonials. I think they’re self-evident.

Where I thought you (the reader) might benefit is hearing how I went about gathering the testimonials I will share here.

Since Total Broadcasting produces marketing videos shooting a testimonial was easy for me. But it can be easy for you too. I’ve asked a good handful of customers to do them for us. In asking I emphasize that they will be posted to our YouTube Channel, which has nearly 12-thousand views, and elsewhere on the internet so they and their business can get some exposure too.

Amongst our many services Total Broadcasting produces a line of customizable marketing videos for realtors and others in the real estate business. Bellevue, WA Realtor Justin Richards was asked by me to explain how he uses our videos and what he likes about them.

As you can see I close the video asking Justin to tell the video viewers about him, his services, and how to contact him. It’s a great way to make the testimonial you need be a win-win for everyone involved.

I did the same thing in this video for one of our customers who benefit from Total Broadcasting’s auto mechanic marketing videos.

If doing video is beyond your capabilities then get some testimonials in writing. One of the easiest ways to do this is to write the testimonial yourself. Doing so saves your customer the time of writing it themselves. You also benefit by being able to use the words and make the emphasis you want to make.

Testimonial Letter

KC Martin Automotive in Lynnwood, WA was kind enough to provide us with this testimonial letter.

All you need do is send the testimonial your wrote to your customer on a blank piece of paper. Send an accompanying letter saying something like this:

I’d like to request that you provide us with a testimonial letter attesting to your favorable impression of the work we have done for you. We would be happy to have you write it in your own words, but to save you time and trouble we’re providing you a sample of what you might like to write. If you agree with it just copy it onto a piece of your company’s letterhead, sign it with your name and title and mail it back to us. Thank you in advance very much for doing this for us.

You may sweeten the request AND do some advance selling by telling your customer that in exchange with providing you with this testimonial you will discount their next purchase by some fixed or percentage dollar amount. In no way does this cheapen the testimonial or make it insincere. Once again, it’s merely an easy way to turn the request into a win-win for you and the customer.

When you focus on making a win-win situation for your customer under any circumstance you go a long way toward building a successful business.
