Why You Don’t Need to Go Viral to Make Video Marketing Work

While it can be a game-changer to be suddenly watched by the world, most small businesses don’t need this level of exposure to see results.

Stop the Hate, Please. Opposition voters are just like those you Love.

flags

When Barrack Obama was re-elected I was dismayed and sad. I honestly couldn’t believe that the majority of Americans fell for the lies the media and his administration were putting out, and they couldn’t look at the condition of our country and want to make a change. I couldn’t understand not electing a kind, high-achieving moderate Republican over a President who had failed to bring the country together, and in fact drove it further apart, and whose economic record proved incapable of pulling us out of a deep recession and probably elongating it.

I did all I could to convey my strong feelings in support of Mitt Romney and in opposition to Barrack Obama. I lost a few friends I suspect who had considerably more liberal views.

But after the election I withdrew from posting any political commentary, articles, memes, etc. I was disgusted and sad and mystified but I kept my mouth shut.

He's the best of our bad choices.

He was the best of our bad choices.

We’re now more than one week from the election of Donald Trump as President. But the hate against him hasn’t stopped. It seems to be growing and it certainly has spread. Now, according to the disappointed Hillary voters, this whole country is RACIST, and Misogynistic, and hateful. Social media is rampant with hateful and arrogant comments.

My response: REALLY? What are you thinking? You think the HATE is coming from our side? REALLY?

Casting aspersions to your Friends and Followers on Facebook and Twitter and elsewhere does nothing to advance the beliefs you claim to aspire toward. Is it correct to say you, the Hillary voter, seek unity, tolerance of different people, races, religions, sexual preferences? Is this tolerance limited to only those who believe like you do? Is this desire for unity a true wish, just as long as we keep the Conservatives and the Bible thumpers, and the “old-fashioned” out?

What I don’t get and refuse to tolerate is the fact that each and every one of us knows and loves and cares for people who vote differently politically. Hard-Right Republicans and/or Conservatives have a brother or a sister or a friend or a wife or a mom or a dad who advocates for Liberal Democratic ideas. Every Left-Wing Socialist loving Democrat loves and cares for and possibly works with another who votes and believes just the opposite.

So why do you want to hurt that person or persons? Why do you want to question their character? If their character is so bad why do you love them? Stop it! Love them as you always have. But recognize, you’re hurting them when you call them racist or hateful. You’re not caring for them when you call them whining, cry babies for not liking the results of the election.

If you love someone who thinks and votes differently than you, why can’t you recognize that others who voted like they did might be just as loving, and sweet, and fun as the person you love. Because…they are.

Realtors need Video Marketing

It’s 2016. Mr. or Mrs. real estate professional you no longer have an excuse for not AT LEAST looking into video marketing.

We know the excuses.

“I don’t have the money.” – A couple of thoughts here: 1. When are you going to get the money? When your invisibility on the internet magically brings you lots of new clients? We don’t mean to sound mean. LOL. But its true that to make money you must spend money. And every marketing expert will tell you video is key, along with a strong presence on the internet (i.e. social media). We know you’ve heard this at your real estate company’s monthly sales and marketing meetings. Haven’t you?

2. How do you know you don’t have the money if you don’t pick up the phone and call a video production expert, like Total Broadcasting service? It’s easy to dismiss something of which you have no knowledge. But when you invest the 5 minute phone call and 20 minute face-to-face meeting with someone who knows yours questions before you ask them and provides all the answers you will then authoritatively know if you have the money or not. Perhaps someone who has worked with other professionals like yourself can provide some ideas that you’ve not thought about.

“I can do the videos myself”- OK. Ignoring the FACT that your video production quality will inevitably be of poorer quality than what can be done by a professional, we must ask the obvious question, why haven’t you? Again, its an easy excuse to say you’ll do something and then never get around to doing it. It’s also a poor business decision to take all the time necessary for scripting, recording, editing, and then posting or placing your video where people can see it rather than concentrating your valuable time working on behalf of your clients buying and selling homes. Best to invest the money in someone whose entire business interest is in helping you grow yours.

“I get all my business through referrals”-  Let us repeat…its 2016. No matter how successful or unsuccessful your real estate business is, imagine how it could be if your referrals could actually find you on the internet thanks to some quality, well produced and well placed marketing, and introductory videos. In today’s internet age no referral just calls you based on someones recommendation. They Google you first. And if you are not showing up, or blanketing the 1st page Google search results, you know who will appear before the eyes of YOUR referral? Other Realtors. Other real estate professionals who spent the money, and time to get their presence seen on the search result for a local Realtor. That should be you in front of their eyes. But its not because you have no valid internet presence. We can change that.

Windermere Realtor Cathy Wahlin is just one of the real estate professionals we’ve helped with videos like this one:

Mortgage agents, Home inspectors, and anyone whose business profits from the buying and selling of residential homes need the monthly video service Total Broadcasting provides.

Don’t take our word for it. In a buildfire.com article titled Real Estate Marketing Ideas From 19 Top Experts nearly all of them specifically write about the need for professional videography/photography.

If we have finally convinced you to do what you know you should have been doing all along stop reading now. Stop surfing the internet now. Don’t click on another link. Let’s see if we can help you. Call Total Broadcasting Service at 425-687-0100. While they last we’ll give you a pair of Seattle Seahawks game tickets for this 2016 season just for becoming a new monthly video customer.

Thanks for visting. Share with your friends.

Tired of the Hate

Daisies

Pardon me while I go on a rant. I am so tired of hatefullness. I see it all the time and don’t understand it. Before anyone can accuse me of hypocrisy, let me state unequivocally that I have strong opinions and am not afraid to voice them. But you have never seen me rant that someone who’s mere ideas I oppose is “the lowest form of human life” a direct quote from a ultra-liberal “Friend” on Facebook about GOP Presidential candidate Scott Walker, and that was just the tip of the iceberg.

I see hate directed at Gays, blacks, Republicans, Democrats, Mexicans, Muslims, Huskies, Cougars, the list goes on and on. I’ve had some people do unspeakable hurtful things to me directly, some of these people were very close to me. I know others who suffered the same sort of treatment turn their affection around into hate. Some of these same people don’t understand why I don’t. I can’t. Its simply not in me.

I hate actions not people. Murder, rape, betrayal, and selfishness. I recognize the worst of the worst. But hate of people is too heavy a burden for me to carry. This isn’t about religion or faith, though my faith tells me to LOVE not hate, and to forgive. But its not my religion that prevents it, its just a deep seeded feeling.

I’ve been saddened by the immense growth in race hatred in the years since Obama took the White House. I didn’t vote for him, but remember in 2009 writing of my hope that his election would finally end the racial mistrust and hatred that existed. It didn’t. It has gotten worse. I think all this hatred can be fixed. But not by our current leaders. We need parents to tell kids to reject all those who enunciate hate. We need to teach our kids that the best way to persuade is with love, forgiveness, understanding and setting a good example. Nobody was ever persuaded by calling them a hateful name. Many have been persuaded by a kind word or gesture.

I believe illegal immigration is a serious problem in our country and needs to be curtailed. But it’s wrong to characterize so many illegal immigrants as “murderers, drug dealers and rapists…and I suppose some are good people” as Donald Trump has done. Yes, statistics show illegal immigrants bring a disproportionate amount of crime to our country. This is an uncontroverted fact. But the overall picture of the results of illegal immigration is the harm it causes legal Americans, yes in crime; but also in lower wages, fewer jobs, diminished social resources (i.e. benefits) and housing. That’s not hate for one group of people. That’s compassion for another group of people. Our people. Fellow Americans. There is no need to hate the illegals because they want a better life in our country. But they must do it legally, in a controlled manner in order to not hurt those to whom we owe the most; our own brothers and sisters and moms and dads.

People need not misunderstand disagreement with hatred. Too often I see people calling another a “hater” because of their views, when hate has nothing to do with it. Some one once said, “Anyone who thinks you can’t strongly disapprove of a persons actions and not hate them but love them, has never raised a teenager.” Jesus once said, “Let him among you without sin, cast the first stone”. Where is that sensibility in today’s culture? The woman who Jesus saved from a stoning didn’t get off without a reprimand. Jesus forgave her of her sin(s) then sent her away with the admonition to “sin no more”. When asked by his disciple Peter how often he should forgive a brother who sinned against him, “Up to seven times?” he asked. Jesus said “I say to you not seven, but seventy times seven”. That’s not religion. That’s common sense. That’s learning to live more happily.

Be strong. Be opinionated. Argue for your beliefs. But don’t hate the person who feels counter to you. Provided their beliefs don’t inhibit your ability to live and be happy…let them go. Let them live as they would see fit.

I am a much better man now than I was in years past primarily because I won’t let anger hurt me or others any more. It’s a wonderful way to live that took me too long to discover. It took someone hurting me in the most profound way to come to this way of thinking and feeling. But it’s made me better as a result. I honestly believe others can benefit as have I. (And now for some religion…) And upon embracing a life of love, peace and understanding I believe God directly intervenes and blesses you. And even if you don’t believe that…you bless yourself.

What Business Owners Want

Total Broadcasting's Picture/Quote Service is great at improving interactivity between businesses and their customers.

Total Broadcasting’s Picture/Quote Service is great at improving interactivity between businesses and their customers.

My personal habits, likes and dislikes provide for some interesting contradictions. One that I admit to is the fact that I like quality service and products for myself and for my customers. In the eyes of many my other more overriding quality is that I am quite thrifty. Not cheap. I just don’t like spending money unnecessarily.

As with many I have translated my personality and preferences into what is offered my clients through Total Broadcasting Service, my video and audio production company in Seattle. I could get into great detail, but I won’t. Simply put, business owners want quality and lots of money-spending customers…but they don’t want to pay for it. Business owners want marketing exposure and the results good marketing and branding provides…but they don’t want to do a darn thing to facilitate this marketing. They want you to do it for them.  And far too many don’t want to pay you for the work you provide.

Hmmm….so as an owner of a business-to-business company with a goal of pleasing our customers and helping those business owners achieve their business and personal goals how do we overcome this clear contradiction in business owners wants?

Here is our personal example. Total Broadcasting Service was a pioneer in the video-marketing for the web services that are growing exponentially now. When we added video to our menu of services nearly 5 years ago our primary goal was to provide the service inexpensively, thus complying with this authors personal beliefs and desire to be thrifty. We worked hard to get early customers in a field for which we had nearly no experience. Upon reflexion I can say our videos weren’t very good. But they were cheap. Our practice was to get a customer, take their money, produce their video and provide it to them and then thank them, hoping they would use their videos well and call us again in the future with orders for more work.

You can probably guess what happened. The business owners took the videos and (presumably) stored them in their computers never to be seen again…by anyone…most notably their customers or potential customers. The business owners didn’t have the acumen or the time to acquire it to post their own marketing videos anywhere on the internet including their Social Media (“What’s that? Oh you mean Facebook and Tweeter or whatever its called?”) or their websites. As a result few of them called us back for more work and some looked at their time and money invested in the creation of the video as a waste.

Graphic Facebook Insights shows tremendous improvement in customer interactivity while employing added services, and a decrease when not.

Graphic Facebook Insights shows tremendous improvement in customer interactivity while employing added services, and a decrease when not.

So, we had some work to do. We chose to improve our services. Going forward, anyone we sold a video was going to have us post that video onto their own YouTube Channel, and if they didn’t have one we would create one for them; and we would post that YouTube video onto their Facebook business page, and if they didn’t have one we would create one for them.

Simultaneously while assuring that the videos we produced for our customers would at least have a chance of being seen or found we worked diligently at improving the quality of our videos. We learned better editing and production techniques and programs. We learned better methods and got better equipment for when we shot video.

The results were wonderful. As expected our customers benefited from the changes we implemented and didn’t mind the slight increases in pricing these changes required. And they showed their pleasure by routinely renewing their orders with us and keeping us growing as a company.

Skip forward a couple of years to 2014. The internet, marketing, search engines and social media are all constantly changing. What worked yesterday may no longer be a best practice. So it was with our video, social media, and internet marketing service. We added services since it became apparent our customers needed those added services to best market themselves and grow their business. With the added services our prices increased.

The good news is we made more money with a few customers who added these extra services and we were quickly able to graphically show results for our customers. The added services and expenses were proving to be worth it. The bad news…not enough business owners wanted or could afford to pay for the added services we felt would be necessary in today’s world of internet advertising. So we lost out on too many customers we otherwise might have been able to sign-up had we been offering them the earlier diminished services at lower prices.

The lesson learned; a lesson that is an age-old lesson in business, don’t give the customers what you think they need. Give the customers what they want. But we don’t have to be so cold about it. There is good news on the other side of this seemingly dark lesson. Once you give the customer what they want, you earn their trust. Upon earning their trust…you can add to the services you provide and grow your business with the customers you already have. After all, it’s an age-old business adage that 80% of your business comes from 20% of your customers. In following this method everybody wins. And isn’t that what you were shooting for to begin with?

Make providing your customer what they want your top priority, work your butt off to make it serve them as best possible. Upon earning their trust and serving their wants…approach them again…give them what they need…and subsequently serve them better.

Thanks for visiting. Comments are welcome.
