The Seattle Times is Silly. Electoral College will stay.

The Seattle Times newspaper has joined the whiny call of liberals all over the country in calling for the elimination of the Electoral College used to choose our nation’s President.

As part of their argument for this voter disenfranchisement of their reader’s the Time’s Editors erroneously point out that the need which created the Electoral College in our Constitution in 1789 no longer exist. They correctly point our that it was part of a compromise to encourage smaller agrarian southern states to join the union when they were afraid of being dominated by the more populous northern states. That need for preventing domination of smaller states by larger states still exists. The geography has changed. But look no further than the 2016 election map results to see how dominating urban centers could be in our Presidential elections if not for the Electoral College.

While red indicates the counties that voted for Trump and blue indicates the counties that voted for Clinton, Clinton won the popular vote.

Time magazine reported that Trump won 2649 counties nationwide, while Clinton won 503. Were the U.S. to rely on the popular vote for electing our President the vast majority of the country would be serfs to the oligarchs in New York and Los Angeles.

I believe in the individual rights and liberty granted me by the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. And I defend those rights. It’s amazing to me why Democrats continually want to give away those rights. They want to give away our 2nd Amendment Rights to have guns. They increasingly want to eliminate our first Amendment Rights to Free speech by suppressing what words we can say and what hats (MAGA) we can wear. They want to continue to defile the intent of the 14th Amendment by giving away our citizenship to the children of illegal aliens born within our borders who maintain citizenship in the countries from which their parents came. They want to eliminate first Amendment Rights to religion by ostracizing those who practice it, especially Christians.

And because they don’t like Donald Trump they want to eliminate the Presidential voting rights of 95% of the country.

The argument for a nationwide popular vote rests on the myth that such a change would allow for 1 person, 1 vote. It’s a myth because of the human nature of group think and self-interest. Blacks tend to vote one way. Whites tend to vote another way. Men tend to vote a certain way. Women, Jews, Christians, Catholics etc. etc. A national popular vote would put our nations Presidency strictly in the hands of urban voters. More specifically it would put the Presidency strictly in the hands of New York and Los Angeles.

Thank God the Founding Fathers found the compromises necessary to create the Constitution. A lot of people in Wyoming, Delaware, Montana, Alaska, North and South Dakota and Vermont might resent only having a single representative in the U.S. House while California has 53, New York has 27, Texas 36, Florida 27, Pennsylvania 18, Illinois 18. Only 6 states make up 41% of the House. 15 states have 3 or fewer House Representatives. More than half the states, 26, have a total of only 77 Representatives or less than 18 percent of the House’s 435 members. As such the more populous states have a gigantic voting advantage over the less populous states.

If this isn’t all about hating Trump and its about 1 man 1 vote why wouldn’t they argue against our bicameral Congress? Why not eliminate the Senate? After all the small states get 2 votes there, same as the more populous states. To properly understand the wisdom of the Founding Fathers you have to understand the balance they had to achieve in order to form a more perfect union.

Ultimately this is a silly argument because eliminating the Electoral College would require a Constitutional Convention and ratification of any Amendments by 3/4 of the states. Fortunately, as pointed out here, a majority of the states are small and even if such a Convention took place and even if an Amendment were adopted (both of which are highly unlikely) there are not enough idiots who think we live in a Democracy throughout the smaller states to commit political suicide and totally disenfranchise their voters. It won’t happen. And we can thank God for it.

We Need More Racists for the Good of our Country

It’s happened again. 😦

I’ve once again been called a racist. The person writing this hateful charge doesn’t know me, and we have never met. But he took exception to my opposition to the bias headlines of a news story that I felt demonstrated a clear one-sided explanation of a story/dispute. What the story is and the content of my comments are unimportant. I stand by them. They were made publicly on Facebook and Liked or Loved by a huge majority of the hundreds of those reacting to what I wrote.

Usually when this false charge of racism is directed at me I never defend myself by enunciating my life’s deeds or accomplishments. I feel to do so is akin to a true racist responding (as so many do) by saying, “I have lots of black friends”; a claim that is frequently sad and weak and doesn’t excuse a racist’s words or deeds.

But with our nation so politically divided and with claims of racism being thrown about at every little hostility or disagreement I think it might be instructive for all to see and read what this “racist” looks like (rhetorically speaking). If I’m a racist, I pray for our nation’s future that we have more and more racists going forward.

To see an interracial couple today, in 2018, is neither rare nor upsetting to most people. It’s common. And it’s properly accepted. But, in 1985 when I became engaged to a black woman and still in 1987 when we were wedded it was still rare and it was still looked-down upon by many; including my father and others in my family. But in spite of its rarity and the ignorant condemnation we received I married a black woman and remained mostly happily married to the mother of my three black children for 28 years. We lived together for 30 years.

During my first marriage I was fully involved with and accepted by my ex-wife’s immediate and extended family. In fact its true to say my black family was more involved in my and my children’s lives than my white family. We holiday’d together. We travelled together. We laughed and cried together. And sometimes we argued. In other words, we were a pretty typical family. Were it not for my ex’s severe personal failings we’d probably still be married today and I wouldn’t have divorced her. (BTW- these personal failings are sadly common among couples regardless of race. Duh!)

I love them all.

Though half their lineage is white (Caucasian if you prefer) my 3 adult children identify as black. I was always present in their lives. Coached them on various sports teams. Provided a stable home. Loved them, and tried to be the best dad I could be. I’m proud to say I taught them much and imposed strict discipline when necessary. One thing I didn’t and couldn’t teach them was how to be black in America. Individually I told them all this at times when their maturity called for it. I told them that racism still exists in our country, that it’s awful, and that to some degree it will always exist. But I also taught them there is no reason it should ever hold you back. I taught them it’s an obstacle that needs to be overcome and often ignored. The fact that its an obstacle that I never faced was immaterial to their lives. For the wise person understands that we all face different obstacles and we all must overcome our own obstacles in order to progress, be productive and be happy.

Recently I remarried a wonderful, smart, beautiful woman. Incidental to all her wonderful qualities is the fact that she is Mexican. She and her whole family were born in Mexico. While a naturalized United States citizen she remains proudly and defiantly Mexican. And I love her so very much.

In the nearly 4 years since we first met I’ve gained a lot of learning and respect about and for Hispanic people; their traditions, their nature. It’s been quite educational. It hasn’t change my view about illegal immigration, which I oppose. I support President Trump’s efforts to stem the flow of illegal immigration and to deport most violators. My wife has a different point of view on this subject. We don’t talk about this subject….anymore.

This may shock some but in my nearly four years of knowing my wife and her family and friends I have seen more racism and bigotry directed at her and other Hispanics than I ever saw in over 30 years with previous black family, ex-wife, and children. If you think skin color is a trigger for hatred; just watch the reaction to a group of Hispanics speaking Spanish amongst white or black strangers in a public setting. It’s like a magnet for their condemning eyes. And it is sad.

Nearly 5 years ago I met a pretty black woman at a business networking event. My marriage was dissolving and I wanted to get to know her. This was before I met my current wife. Though no romantic relationship ever developed, I learned of the charity for which she worked, became involved, and for three years have served on its Board of Directors. While not specifically targeting blacks or minorities with the food service it provides, black and other minorities are the primary beneficiaries of our service work. African-Americans also make up the largest majority of this organizations workers, donors, and volunteers. It’s a 30-year-old organization that is the 2nd Largest food-distributorship to needy in the state of Washington.

I could go on and on. But what I’ve written are just some of the highlights of a life that is dominated by being-with, loving, serving and living with blacks and now other minorities. So, I’m a racist? Well, being self-confident and proud I would say…I want more of me out there.

President Trump is a racist too, or haven’t you read that? He presides over an economy with the lowest recorded black unemployment and hispanic unemployment ever recorded. And he touts that fact at nearly every opportunity. As everyone knows He was the star of The Apprentice which aired for 15 years on easily the most Liberal television network, NBC. Trump received recognition and awards from many black leaders like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. He was in the public eye most of the past 40 years. And prior to choosing to run for President no one called him a racist.

I didn’t support Trump in the GOP Primaries in 2016. Out of the 16 legitimate Republican Presidential candidates that ran in 2016 he was probably my 13th favorite. I didn’t vote for him in the Primary in my state. I never posted support for him in my social media activity. I wasn’t a supporter. I am now.

Of course, if you watch CNN or MSNBC frequently you now know that those who support our President are all racists too. Known proudly as “Deplorables”, so named by Hillary Clinton, we are all said to be hateful and intolerant of blacks and other minorities. And according to the Left we hate immigrants…particularly those with brown skin.

The facts that are lost in all this name-calling by the Left is that these “Deplorables” on average attend church more frequently than do Trump’s opposition and give a higher percentage of their incomes to charity. With both sides lamenting the destruction of families and of family values in our country…based on these FACTS all I can say is we need more Deplorables. We need more racists.

Clarification: For those too moronic or hateful to understand that the title and repeated theme of this blog is intentionally provocative and sarcastic, I feel sorry for you. Yes, this author hates and condemns true racism. It’s an ignorant scourge on people and our society in general. True racism needs to be condemned whenever it rears its ugly face. Additionally, the common and repeated and false charges of racism that we all see and hear today I condemn equally. In most cases its leveled by ignorant people who simply don’t understand another person’s thoughts and actions. But when wielded by powerful elected officials it is simply evil. It’s presumed such people are intelligent enough to know what true racism is. So their use of such a charge on the President and so many others in this country must be interpreted as merely selfish acts designed to hurt their political opponents and to divide the people of this country. It’s working. And it needs to be stopped. All who agree with this post need to Share it.

Congressional investigations are now underway to determine Russia’s involvement in the Presidential election of 2016. It’s important to do. But at this point it is also important to state that no one is alleging or even suspects that Russia illegally altered  votes cast by the American people. No one believes Russia hacked voting machines or stuffed ballot boxes.

Let’s be clear: at worst Russia is suspected of trying to sway U.S. public opinion away from Hillary Clinton. They did this, allegedly by illegally acquiring emails written and received by Clinton’s campaign Director. They did this by exposing to the public…the truth. 

The fact that Russia tried to influence the U.S. Presidential election is bad, but not the least bit surprising.

They’ve been doing it for decades. And NOBODY disputes this fact!!!

What’s perhaps more shocking to the American political system is how hypocritical and forgetful the media and everyone else seems to be about our own recent history. Russia meddling in U.S. Presidential politics is bad. It’s possibly a little worse than granting what amounts to a State Visit by a Foreign Leader to a young Senator from Illinois with ZERO foreign policy experience, thus giving him that foreign policy experience plus the gravitas in the eyes of the American electorate of having met with foreign leaders. In the case of Barrack Obama its fortelling to note that nearly all the European and Middle East leaders he met with in the Summer of 2008 were leftist in their politics and not friends to Israel.

Having foreign governments trying to influence the U.S. Presidential Election has been going on for decades, and its neither completely bad nor surprising. I would argue that it’s in their best interest to help a U.S. Presidential candidate who would have a more favorable relationship toward them if elected and in their best interest to hinder a candidate with whom they felt antagonism.

So what are we to make of these Congressional investigations? Well, lets not forget President Trump’s victory came as a Yuuuuuge surprise to everyone. Democrats, the media, and most Republicans.

On Trump Believe Your Eyes and Ears

I’ve been waiting months to write this blog. But with less than two weeks before the election I can’t wait any longer.

My Washington State election ballot arrived in the mail a few days ago. And as it sits on my desk I still can’t tell you who I’m going to vote for President of the United States. I can tell you who I won’t be voting for. I won’t reward Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton with my vote in spite of the fact that I don’t like, and never have liked her Republican opponent, Donald Trump. To vote for Clinton is to vote for lawlessness and corruption. Trump is a lot of bad things. For the sake of argument, he’s a lot of good things too. But one thing he hasn’t proved to be is criminally corrupt. Clinton can’t say that.

Hillary zombies (i.e. supporters) will argue she hasn’t been charged with anything; to which I say “you really are naive, aren’t you?” If you don’t think powerful, and rich people can’t navigate through a few legal time bombs than you are fearfully in denial. Her husband was a two term President, and the most popular politician in the country with the possible exception of Barrack Obama. The Wikileaks daily email releases of the past month have shown Hillary to be two-faced, hateful of the average American, hateful of Catholics, disdainful of African-Americans, politically petty, and a bold-faced liar. All these are verifiable in her own writing or the writings of her closest Lieutenants. Clinton

My low impression of Clinton was cemented four years ago when she and Obama crafted the most obvious lie of the 2012 Presidential race. They both repeated claimed the Benghazi attacks were sparked by a little watched, little known, poorly produced YouTube video. They told this lie repeatedly to deflect responsibility for the planned terror attack, and their negligence in protecting the four brave Americans who were killed September 11th and 12th, 2012. They told this lie repeatedly for weeks…and then in spite of numerous incidence of making this false claim on camera both Obama and Clinton denied actually saying it. It’s as if they were telling the American people, “These are not the droids you’re looking for.'”.  And the American people bought it. And the media bought it including and especially CNN’s Candy Crowley who inappropriately and incorrectly shut down Mitt Romney’s attack on Obama in this matter during a live televised Presidential Debate.

Disappointingly the Republican electorate looked at 17 mostly well qualified Presidential candidates and ended up choosing Trump as their standard barer. Unfortunately its the huge number of candidates that made Trump’s victory possible. Had there been a more reasonable number like 8-10 people I don’t believe Trump would have come close to receiving the nomination.

But, he has the nomination in spite of unprecedented opposition from the mass media, Democrats, and fellow Republicans. I have to admit persevering in spite of such opposition is admirable. Never has a major party candidate faced such powerful opposition and been left standing. It’s as if Trump is everything he says he is, tough and smart.

He is also the most narcissistic individual most anyone has ever seen. But here is what most people don’t ever say or acknowledge…EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO HAS EVER RUN FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES IS AN EGOTIST AND TO SOME DEGREE NARCISSISTIC. To run for the most powerful job in the world takes a lot of hubris. You must think well of yourself. You must think that God has placed you on this planet to lead all others. If you don’t feel that way, you have no business seeking the job. That’s where the hypocrisy of the left really bothers me about how they’ve condemned Trump. Clinton has been running for President for at least 25 years. Trump started 1 1/2 years ago. Were he running before then he never would have done or said so many of the outlandish things he said.

On the matter of the outlandish things he has said I have several thoughts.

First, he’s a New Yorker. If you’ve never had business dealings with New Yorker’s you may not understand. I have. Many times. New Yorker’s are unlike any regional group of people in the country. They are IN YOUR FACE. They’re curt. They’re blunt. They’re seemingly uncaring. And they care little about who they roll over if they have to in order to get something done. Obviously, this is a generalization. But I stand by it. I will also say, and a personal (as opposed to a business level) New Yorker’s are some of the collectively most passionate and compassionate people I have ever met. From what I’ve seen, heard, and read…this describes Trump.

Second, much of Trumps most outrageous comments have come when the cameras are rolling or the mic is hot. He made regular appearances on the Howard Stern show, where the host made himself famous by saying and provoking others to say incredible sexual things. In Trump’s case, “when in Rome…”. Trump was the star of his own TV show for years on NBC. Does anyone think NBC corporate is anything but a shill for Hillary Clinton and the hierarchy of the Democratic party? And yet, they employed Trump in his tv show for 11 years!

Thirdly, the audio and video tape that got Trump in the greatest hot water this election season was unearthed from NBC’s deep vault and featured Trump discussing with tv personality Billie Bush his attraction for beautiful women in the most vulgar terms imaginable. While I don’t talk like that I have to say the language wasn’t unimaginable. I’ve heard similar language about women many times from many men. Some were good men. But they spoke very crudely amongst other men when they trusted such conversations would never be heard or relayed to the public or at least any women. That’s what Trump thought at that time I’m sure. And for God sakes, how many who are reading this are aware the audio was edited before being made public. Similar vulgarities spoken by Bush were edited from what most of the public heard or read. Why would such editing occur? Well, obviously to make Trump stand alone as the one and only true PIG between the two individuals. It worked. Most people still haven’t heard Bush’s vulgar comments which encouraged Trump to continue such dialog.

The stench that emanates from Washington D.C. is palpable. And its inescapable without someone who is a tough and true outsider digging in to the sewage to discard it. For this reason above all others I have not eliminated the possibility of voting for Trump.

The other issue in which Trump stands tall for me is illegal immigration. Tough as his words have been they’ve also been frequently mischaracterized. Contrary to what’s become the popular myth, Trump did not call all Mexicans rapists and drug dealers and murderers. He did say Mexico was sending us their worst, their rapists, drug dealers, and murders and I suppose some of them are good people. Trump has correctly said repeatedly that no group is hurt more by illegal immigration than African-Americans. In a narrow sense he’s spot on. On a broader sense I would say no one is hurt more than poor or low-income people. Illegal immigrants are not taking the jobs of doctors, lawyers, CEO’s or well-educated college grads. They’re taking the jobs, the healthcare resources, the education resources, the feeding and housing resources of America’s most humble. And here’s something else that’s important. They broke the law. Once again, its important to point out that, like Trump, I am in this writing, generalizing. It’s perfectly OK to generalize provided you know that you are generalizing. So nobody needs to fire back at me with their examples of high earning, well-educated, honest and hard-working illegal immigrant. Please be adults and not children. And please be honest. There is too much dishonest, red herrings and nonsense in this political campaign.

Lastly, Trump has been in the public eye for over thirty years. He’s been a media darling. And he’s always been outlandish. But until this campaign against the corrupt Clinton Machine he has never been seen as racist, homophobic, misogynistic and less than fabulously wealthy. Believe your eyes. Look at the public Trump of 30 years. If you liked him before the campaign…you still should. He has had his reputation wildly tattered and has shown a love for this country I think is undeniable. But the Democrats have become very good with the game of misdirection, “These are not the droids you’re looking for”.

Hillary Clinton will win my state of Washington. Of this there is no doubt. So it really doesn’t matter who I vote for. So my vote will probably go toward my prayer for a miracle. As I posted a couple of weeks ago I hope neither Trump nor Clinton are ever President of the United States. Clinton is too corrupt. And Trump …well…he’s not knowledgable enough. Period. The only way my prayer could come true (short of the death of both candidates…which I’m not hoping for) is if Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson manages to split the votes in 2-3 states and win their electors with maybe 34-35% of the vote. He could do it in states like New Mexico where he was a two term Governor, Utah, Alaska and possibly Vermont. It won’t happen in Washington. But that is PROBABLY where my vote is going, and my prayer.

Well the conventions are over and done with for another Presidential election cycle. I sure feel a lot more enlightened, don’t you?

I know now that Hillary Clinton is a liar, crooked, corrupt, and has no significant accomplishments in her professional political life.

I am more recently aware of the fact that Donald Trump is a racist, homophobe, anti-Islamic, anti-migrant, and a failed businessman.

The Republican convention and Democrat convention which followed spent most of its time demonizing the opponent in this Fall’s Presidential election. And while I know many who are reading this now will openly and frequently say they HATE Clinton or they HATE Trump or the HATE both of them, I would ask you to consider your faith, or the faith that you claim to possess.

Are the descriptions I wrote about Trump and Clinton accurate? True? Like most people these negative characterizations are possibly true to some people and not true to others. It’s like those grainy cell phone videos of police shootings that we’ve all seen. Maybe half this country see’s police acting irresponsibly and abusing and sometimes killing innocent individuals. Different people seeing the exact same video see a potential criminal suspect resisting arrest and in doing so threatening the law enforcement officers; and in the natural progression of things being man-handled or shot. As much as you see one side, you have to acknowledge that others see the other side. And so we have conflict.

I am not a fan of Trump or Clinton. I don’t think either is nearly as bad as their detractors claim. I don’t know who I’m going to vote for. I’m leaning toward voting for the Libertarian ticket with former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson and his Vice-Presidential nominee former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld.

But as I contemplate my choice and try to sway some toward my way of thinking I am constantly amazed how our “Christian” nation continually forgets the main tenants of our faith. The message from Jesus over and over and over again in our Bible is LOVE.

We’ve all heard it whether you’re Christian or not, “A new commandment I give you is to Love one another…” John 13:34. It’s important to note that Jesus didn’t say “Love one another…unless the other guy is part of a different political party”. You, of course, will say “but how can I love Hillary, she lies. And her lies offend me”. Fortunately, Jesus once again has you covered. He said, “Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.” JOHN 8:7. Have you ever lied? Have you lied repeatedly in your life? Have you been caught for doing so? Now…here is the real tough question…have you ever been perpetually in the national spotlight under the hot lamps of scrutiny like Hillary Clinton has been for more than 25 years and lied and been caught? The answer is no. You haven’t. In fact few have in our nations history.

It’s easy to see that Jesus was telling us to not be hypocrites. But he was also telling us not to judge others. Love one another. But again you say, “I can’t love Trump. He is so vulgar. I think he’s a racist”. Well, Jesus hits back at us with Matthew 7:1 “Judge not. Or you will be judged”. Its seems he’s pretty consistent.

And when friends and even family members harangue you for your political affiliations remember what Jesus told Peter about the brother who repeatedly did wrong. Peter asked Jesus how many times should I forgive him? Seven times? Christ again demonstrates his endless capacity for love and responds, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.” Matthew 18:22. (That’s 490 times for the math challenged. Though I doubt Jesus was being literal)

Forgetting what our faith teaches us over and over and over and over again in this life…happens. It happens when Democrats advocate for a woman’s right to choose an abortion at any time in a pregnancy. Their forgetting that another’s life is what’s being chosen. And what does the Bible say about that? Well there’s Exodus 20:13 and Deuteronomy 5:17.  But Jesus himself said it as well,“You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony” Matthew 19:18. In fairness a lot of Republicans advocate for abortion as well. If Christian, they too have forgotten, or chosen to ignore what else Jesus said, “You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.” Matthew 5:21. And again, Republicans and Democrats are constantly forgetting the LOVE commandment with angry retorts to whatever the other says. The very next verse applies to all of us, Matthew 5:22.

Never in the history of Presidential elections have two more agitating and controversial candidates vied for the most power job in the world. And instead of the best they each seem to bring out the worst in our fellow Americans; which is good enough reason for me to seriously consider Gary Johnson. But it’s my prayer that we can all quickly realize, if you’re Christian, remember your faith’s teaching! The Bible, and Jesus doesn’t call them teachings. He calls them commandments! Or if you’re Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Agnostic, or Atheist we’re all Americans and above that we’re all humans. Life for you and your neighbors will be so much better if we disagree, agreeably, and remember to LOVE one another. “Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no greater commandment than these.” Mark 12:31
